Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Allergy Scancollects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Allergy Scan mobile applications, website, dietary assistant, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Information we collect
Depending on the features you use, we may collect:
- Account information: your name, email address, profile image, login method, account identifiers, and authentication records.
- Restriction profiles: allergies, intolerances, dietary preferences, custom restrictions, and profile names you choose to save. This information may reveal health-related details.
- Scan information: barcodes, product and brand names, ingredient-label photos, extracted label text, ingredient lists, precautionary statements, language, confidence, matches, and scan history.
- Dietary assistant content: messages, selected restrictions supplied as context, uploaded images, responses, and conversation history.
- Purchase information: subscription status, product identifiers, entitlement status, and purchase history supplied by the app store or our subscription provider. We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Notification information: a push notification token and related delivery information if you allow notifications.
- Support information: messages and other information you send when you contact us.
- Technical information: device and app information, IP address, timestamps, request logs, diagnostics, and security events that may be generated when you use the Service.
Camera and photo access
Allergy Scan asks for camera or photo-library access only when needed for a feature you choose, such as photographing an ingredient label or attaching an image to the dietary assistant. You control these permissions through your device settings.
Images you submit are sent to our service providers for processing. Images are not used to access other items in your photo library.
How we use information
We use information to:
- create and secure accounts;
- save and apply your restriction profiles;
- look up products, read ingredient labels, and generate ingredient comparisons;
- provide and maintain the dietary assistant;
- remember preferences and synchronize available history;
- manage subscriptions and feature access;
- send service-related notifications you have enabled;
- respond to support requests;
- protect the Service, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and comply with law; and
- improve the reliability, accessibility, and performance of the Service.
We do not use your restriction profile to make decisions about insurance, employment, credit, or eligibility for services.
Service providers and disclosures
We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service, including to:
- Cloud and database providers that host accounts, profiles, scans, assistant conversations, files, and application infrastructure.
- AI providers that process ingredient-label photos, assistant messages, and assistant image attachments to return requested results.
- Product data providers, including Open Food Facts, when a barcode is submitted for product lookup.
- Authentication providers, such as Apple and Google, when you choose their sign-in method.
- Payment and subscription providers, including Apple, Google, and RevenueCat, to process purchases and confirm subscription access.
- Notification providers, including Apple, Google, and Expo, to deliver notifications you enable.
- Professional advisers and authorities when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or establish or defend legal claims.
We may disclose information in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections and applicable law.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Allergy Scan does not display third-party behavioral ads.
AI processing
Label images and dietary assistant content may be processed by third-party AI services to produce the result you request. AI processing can be inaccurate, and submitted content may be logged or retained by a provider for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, and service operation under that provider's terms.
Do not submit information that you do not want processed by these systems. We do not represent that AI output is a medical record, diagnosis, or determination that food is safe.
Storage and retention
We keep account information, saved restriction profiles, scan history, assistant conversations, and subscription status while your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Some preferences and a device identifier may be stored locally on your device.
Retention varies by the type of information and why it is needed. We may retain limited records longer for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and enforcement of our agreements. Service-provider backups and logs may take additional time to expire after deletion.
Your choices and privacy rights
You may:
- change camera, photo, and notification permissions in your device settings;
- edit your restriction profiles and delete available scan history in the app;
- delete your account from the app's settings, which starts deletion of app-owned account data, restriction profiles, scan history, assistant data associated with the app installation, sessions, and notification tokens;
- manage or cancel subscriptions through the Apple App Store or Google Play; and
- contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing where applicable.
Rights vary by location. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
Health-related information
Allergy and dietary restriction information can be sensitive. Allergy Scan is a consumer application and is not a healthcare provider, health plan, or healthcare clearinghouse. The Service is generally not governed by the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Do not use Allergy Scan as a substitute for professional medical advice or an emergency care plan.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can investigate and delete it when appropriate. A parent or guardian should supervise use by a minor and should not rely on the Service to make food-safety decisions for a child.
International data transfers
We and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data-protection laws from where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your sign-in credentials and notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the Service or law changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice in the app or through another reasonable channel.
Questions or privacy requests can be sent to support@allergyscan.app.
